Starting Black History Month off right with some dynamic #BlackGirlMagic!
This week’s Music Monday is dedicated to Lizzo and KING.
Lizzo is being described as an “indie Missy Elliot” and I would have to agree. The Houston native and Detroit-raised rapper and singer has made her way onto my favorites list with her unique sound and positive message on self-acceptance.
Lizzo’s sound is like hip hop, RnB, funk and alternative all wrapped up into one. And the girl has BARS! She reminds me of the 90s when female rappers came correct in this game. They were beautiful and talented, they knew it, and were unapologetic about it. Lizzo gives me that same vibe. She has quickly become one of my favorites.

KING is a female trio group that is guaranteed to give you chills with their soulful harmonies and creative storytelling.
KING’s sound is difficult to define but easy to appreciate. It’s an original sound that you will not hear from any other group or artist. It’s obvious that they take their craft serious by the consistency of dope music. As a fan, and overall music lover, I truly respect them for that.
