Music Monday – The Real Trap Soul

On February 27, 2016, the R&B and soul diva released her first mixtape titled Steady Gang and it is lit!

This week’s Music Monday is dedicated to the Grammy Award winning, Chrisette Michele.

Steady Gang is a new sound for Michele as she serenades us with her soulful, sultry voice over trap beats. Michele has spoken about adjoining the “trap soul” sound into her music, and she does it perfectly with Steady Gang. The mixtape includes a variation of remixes, freestyles, and original songs. Some of the remixes you may recognize are Yo Gotti’s Down In The DM, Bryson Tiller’s Don’t, Justin Beiber’s Sorry, and Adele’s Hello. You can listen to the full mixtape here.

My personal favorites from Steady Gang:

1. Don’t – Chrisette Michelle

Chrisette Michele covers Bryson Tiller’s Don’t while incorporating a cover of Janet Jackson’s Any Time Any Place. It’s beautiful.

2. Say It – Chrisette Michelle

Michele slays Tory Lanez’s Say It. Michele’s voice is perfect over this beat and really contemplates the Brownstone sample. She continues to incorporate the cover of Any Time Any Place. Genius.

3. Sorry – Chrisette Michelle

An acapella version of Justin Beiber’s Sorry where she beautifully scats at the end of the track.  Again, genius.
